MS have released Beta 1 of their purchase of GAINT Software's Anti-Spyware product. You can download it from this link.

Of course being "beta boy" I have installed and begun playing with it. I did a full system scan with all options ticked. The image below is what it found (why oh why can't I insert images where I want them in MSN Spaces?!!).

CoolWebSearch
The first threat appears to be an an error. Tapicfg.exe is a valid program from MS as far as I know. Do not remove it! I marked it as ignore. Similar to what Scott Hanselman found for atl.dll.

KCGame
Well, it found one! Neither LavaSoft nor SpyBot found this in the past. Luckily it’s not a running process and is not in any of my start-up locations. I used Autoruns from SysInternals to check all the start-up locations. Don’t know how this got on. I marked it for deletion.

Messenger Plus!
No surprise this is picked up by an MS product! However, there are valid comments about the fact it will add adware to your system unless to explicitly say not to, which I always do. Marked as ignore (their recommendation).

MiniBug
Again not I’m sure how this was missed by other software. Anyway I don’t want it on. Marked for deletion.

So there you go. Investigate each item before deleting it. It is a BETA product, so be careful when using it!
